Meike Drop-In Filter Mount Adapters for PL-Lenses Announced

Meike Drop-In Filter Mount Adapters for PL-Lenses Announced

Chinese manufacturer Meike announced a new range of PL lens adapters for three different mirrorless mounts: the new adapters are available for E-mount, L-mount, and RF-mount cameras. The drop-in filter mount adapter comes standard with two filters – a variable ND and a clear UV filter, though a wide range of creative and filtration filters are also available. The new adapters will retail for $249.99 and will start shipping by the end of this month.

Meike is well known for their fair-priced Super35 and Full-Frame Cine lenses but the company has also been making lens mount adapters for a while now. Last year, they introduced the MK-EFTE-C drop-in filter adapter, which allows you to mount a Canon EF/EF-S lens onto a Sony E-Mount camera.

The Meike drop-in filter mount adapter for PL lenses comes in a series of three different PL lens mount adapters, allowing you to mount nearly every PL mount lens to a Canon RF, Sony E, or Panasonic L camera. The PL adapter comes standard with a variable ND and a clear UV filter. There is no additional support for heavier cine lenses available, so the entire weight of the lens will rest on the mount adapter.

Unfortunately, as with many other mount adapters, there are no shims available for the Meike PL. Thin metal rings are used to adjust the mount depth to ensure the perfect infinity focus, and sims adjust the lens position slightly further forward and shift where the focus lies.

Drop-in filters

A PL adapter with a drop-in variable ND filter is a smart solution when your camera doesn’t have a built-in ND filter. On the side of the PL adapter, you’ll find an opening to slide a small filter inside. Once inserted, the drop-in filters are firmly locked in place with a locking mechanism. To remove or swap a drop-in filter, you’ll need to press a small release button on the filter itself.

The drop-in filters let cinematographers use the same size filter, regardless of the lens size. The system reduces the amount of gear you need to carry with you as you don’t need a matt box, and the filters are very well protected against scratching inside the adapter. There is a wide range of 13 different filters available that can be purchased as filter sets as well. In addition, Meike provides two different filter boxes for either one or four filters.
