MUTINY NANO and NANO+ Released – The World’s Smallest I/O Boxes for RED KOMODO and V-RAPTOR

The new MUTINY NANO and NANO+ are two extremely compact breakout boxes that expand the I/O capabilities of the RED KOMODO and V-RAPTOR. Measuring only 1x1x7/8” in size, they feature a CTRL, Timecode/Genlock, EXT, and R/S port. Pricing starts at $329.

Although the RED V-RAPTOR has more solid I/O features than the KOMODO, the input and output capabilities of both cameras can be greatly expanded with the use of breakout boxes. There are already quite a few options on the market, like RED’s own KOMODO Expander Module, the Wooden Camera B-Box for KOMODO, Tilta Advanced Power Distribution Module, and the ModernFilmTools MICRO I/O for KOMODO and V-RAPTOR.

Even MUTINY already offers an I/O expander. However, what sets apart the new MUTINY NANO and NANO+ is their size and weight. Indeed, according to the American company, they are the smallest, lightest, and most modular I/O boxes in the world for these cameras. Let’s take a closer look.

MUTINY NANO and NANO+: mini breakout boxes for KOMODO and V-RAPTOR

The new MUTINY NANO and NANO+ are compatible with the RED KOMODO and V-RAPTOR cameras. Both units feature a 4-pin CTRL, a 5-pin Timecode/Genlock, a 9-pin EXT input, and a 3-pin Fischer Run/Stop trigger port.

However, the NANO+ version comes with an additional 9-pin EXT female passthrough port to ensure compatibility with SmallHD’s RED Control system. Furthermore, the four main connectors lean towards the center of the unit to make them compatible with right-angled cables.

Small, light, modular

The MUTINY NANO and NANO+ expand the I/O capabilities of these RED cameras while keeping size and weight down to a minimum. This makes them ideal for gimbal use and super-compact rigging.

Both boxes measure 1x1x7/8” (approximately 2.5×2.5×2.2cm) in size. The NANO version only weighs 22g/0.8oz, while the NANO+ is slightly “heavier” at 42g/1.5oz.

The four I/O ports are hosted by an interchangeable mount bracket and can be rotated inside of it. Included in the box, you will find the standard flat mount bracket. However, the company also offers a 90-degree mounting option and a multi-angle rod mount bracket to easily adapt to all sorts of camera configurations.

Price and availability

The new MUTINY NANO and NANO+ are now available for order on the manufacturer’s website. The two options come at slightly different prices: $329 for the NANO and $399 for the NANO+.

Furthermore, the company also offers NANO and NANO+ bundles with all mounting options included for $389 and $419 respectively.

Do you normally use an I/O box with your RED KOMODO or V-RAPTOR? Do you think the new MUTINY NANO and NANO+ can help you bring size and weight down? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
