Panasonic LUMIX S5II, S5IIX, and G9II Firmware Update Adds LUMIX Lab Support and More

Panasonic LUMIX S5II, S5IIX, and G9II Firmware Update Adds LUMIX Lab Support and More

The latest Panasonic firmware update adds new features to LUMIX S5II, S5IIX, and G9II cameras, such as support for the LUMIX Lab app, new 5GHz wi-fi frequency band option, support for the new XLR unit, or LEICA Monochrome photo style. The updates will be available free of charge from October 9, 2024.

With today’s announcement, the Japanese camera manufacturer Panasonic has improved quite a few of their mirrorless cameras. In this article, I will focus on firmware updates for the LUMIX S5II, S5IIX, and G9II. If you are interested in what improvements the latest firmware update brings to the LUMIX S9, make sure to check the separate article on the topic here. Now, let’s take a quick look at the details of the latest LUMIX firmware update.

Panasonic LUMIX S5II, S5IIX, and G9II firmware updates

The new firmware updates add the same features to all three cameras (with the exception of the LEICA Monochrome photo style). The new firmware versions are numbered as follows:

  • Panasonic LUMIX S5II – firmware version 3.1
  • Panasonic LUMIX S5IIX – firmware version 2.1
  • Panasonic LUMIX G9II – firmware version 2.2

Both LUMIX S5II and S5IIX will now offer the LEICA Monochrome photo style. This is the only new feature that does not get added to the LUMIX G9II because this camera already has this photo style.

Perhaps the most interesting new feature included in the updates is the LUMIX Lab app support. All three cameras will now be compatible with Panasonic’s new smartphone app. LUMIX Lab enables a fast photo and video transfer from the camera, creating original LUT files that can be uploaded to the camera or shared with other creators.

Furthermore, there is now a new 5GHz option added to the existing 2.4GHz wi-fi frequency band. Panasonic, however, says that the 5GHz option might not be unlocked in certain regions because of local regulations.

Additionally, the new firmware update adds support for the new LUMIX DMW-XLR2 audio adaptor. It is worth noting, however, that this does not add the 32-bit float audio recording option. This is currently still only available with the LUMIX GH7.

Other improvements include:

  • Real-time LUT function can be assigned to Fn button
  • Added a pop-up message when using a Panasonic collapsible lens (S5II and S5IIX only)
  • Improved operational stability

As with all Panasonic firmware updates, the latest LUMIX updates for the S5II, S5IIX, and G9II will be available to download free of charge from the LUMIX Global Customer Support website from October 9, 2024.
