Revar Cine announced a new filter cartridge designed to transport a single 4 x 5.65″ filter. The slim case is made of hard plastic and is stackable for easy storage with small magnets holding multiple cartridges together. The Revar Cine 4 x 5.65” Filter Cartridge is available for $44.95. So let’s have a closer look.

Filter specialist Revar Cine is known for their optical filmmaking accessories like the Rota Tray system with circular polarizer filters, or the special kaleidoscope effect filters. Last year at the BSC Expo in London, they introduced the PA Tears diffusion filter. (Check our article here). They also caused quite a stir when they presented a mini RED V-RAPTOR desk model camera at the IBC, a small replica of RED’s 8K flagship camera.

Revar Cine filter cartridge

Glass filters are amongst the most fragile pieces of equipment you will bring to a film set. High-quality filters are expensive but built to last for your entire film career with proper care. Consequently, when you want to transport your valuable glass filters safely all around the world, they have to be thoroughly protected.

This is precisely what the new filter cartridges from Revar Cine are designed for. The poly-nylon material protects a single 4 x 5.65″ filter safely and securely in any situation. It has an internal rail guide that prevents the glass from touching the inside of the cartridge, and a top lid with a latch so you can access your filter without touching the glass surface when you remove them from the cartridge for cleaning.

Filter cartridge – stack them

The slim case fits in any camera bag or transport box, and you can stack multiple cartridges together. It has weak built-in magnets to automatically align several cases into a stack, and Revar Cine makes it pretty clear that the magnets are not strong enough to hold them together when you lift the entire stack. This is a bit disappointing, and you must be aware that you cannot rely on the magnets.

Clean and label them

Just in case you are shooting in dusty surroundings and you want to clean your cartridges, the cases are held together by screws that can be easily removed. So far, the cartridges are only available for 4 x 5.65″ filters, but the company will work on other sizes in the near future. For labeling the cases, you have several options on the outside. You can use gaffer tape, or Revar Cine provides pre-printed vinyl labels for standard ND and diffusion filters.
