Revar Cine recently released a new diffusion accessory by the funny name of PA Tears filter. This is a 4×5.65” silver mist filter that produces images with reduced contrast and glowy highlights. Currently available in a single strength option, it comes at the official retail price of $399.
Revar Cine is a company that focuses on the production of optical filmmaking accessories. They already offer a series of filters, including Variable NDs, Rota-Tray Polarizers, and special diopters. They are now expanding their offering with the introduction of their PA Tears Diffusion Filter.
Although the name of this new product may sound like a joke, it actually seems like Revar Cine wants to pay homage to the hard work of all Production Assistants out there with a humorous product launch. Indeed, the commercial for this new product will definitely draw a smile on your face. Let’s take a closer look.
Revar Cine PA Tears filter: ethereal look
According to the manufacturer, placing this new diffusion filter in front of the lens should result in an image that presents reduced contrast and a soft glow in highlights areas. The effect should look similar to that produced by white mist or pearlescent filters, although a little mitigated.
Filmmaking for Photographers

The PA Tears is a standard 4×5.65” rectangular filter compatible with most matte boxes out there. For now, it only comes in a single strength option, which is a little limiting in my opinion since it leaves cinematographers with no choice.

Build quality and design
The filter is built using polished Schott B270 glass that should ensure a clean, organic look, while still optimizing light transmission. The filter is populated with fine particles that give a dreamy, ethereal look to the recorded image. Revar Cine already offers a filter with a similar design, but a golden feel: the Scarf Dust Gold Mist Diffusion Filter.

Price and availability
The new Revar Cine PA Tears filter has an official retail price of $399, but it’s currently available at the discounted pre-sale price of $269. If you’re interested in this prodcut, you can place your order now from the company’s website.
