RigWheels 90 Degree Vertical Camera Mount Released

RigWheels has just released an interesting new plate for heavy cinema cameras that allows you to switch from horizontal to vertical shooting in seconds: the 90-degree vertical camera mount. Based on a two-hinges design, this plate has a big payload capacity while ensuring your camera stays perpendicular, leveled, and at the correct angle. So, let’s take a closer look at it!

American manufacturer RigWheels is well-known in the industry for their sliders, magnetic car mount systems, and other heavy-duty camera mounting accessories. Last year, the company released the Kraken, a versatile heavy-duty car mount system with an impressive maximum payload capacity of 175lb/79kg. The Kraken is based around a massive 25.4cm/10in suction cup, which attaches to a RigPlate via four rods. On the RigPlate are two RigPlate hinges to adjust the camera angle.

In a smart move, as vertical shooting is here to stay, RigWheels modified the RigPlate to make it a more universal 90-degree vertical camera mount.

RigWheels 90-degree vertical camera mount – features

The 90-degree vertical camera mount consists of two RigPlates’ cheese plates with a plethora of 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 threaded holes, as well as multiple 5/16″ and 3/8″-16 pass-through holes. The bottom plate attaches to your camera tripod quick-release plate. The top plate is designed to receive your camera, either screwed directly or via a dovetail/quick-release plate.

The two cheese plates are attached to each other via two heavy-duty ball heads. The ball heads have rosettes for added strength, and even if RigWheels doesn’t mention a maximum payload capacity, it’s safe to assume it’s at least the same as the Kraken, so around 175lb/79kg.

You can quickly switch from horizontal to vertical shooting by loosening the two ball heads. If we take it one step further, the 90-degree vertical camera mount also allows you to set it at a different angle to create a Dutch angle in seconds.

Price and availability

The RigWheels 90-degree vertical camera mount is available now for $500/€467,95.
