Sabinetek SmartMike+ Features

The Sabinetek SmartMike+ is a wireless microphone solution that was successfully funded on Kickstarter in August 2019. Also, this is one of the products that went under our radar during traditional tradeshows. Indeed, the SmartMike+ won a CES Innovation Award in 2019 and 2020.

This wireless audio solution is primarily aimed at smartphone filmmakers and Vloggers. There is a little clip at the back of the unit to attach it directly to your clothes, like the RØDE Wireless Go or Sennheiser XSW. Also, with a weight of only 14 grams and dimensions of 2.3×0.4×0.6in/5.8x1x1.5cm, this is a tiny device that you can easily throw in any pockets or bags without even noticing it.

The SmartMike+ features a 110mAh battery with and Sabinetek claims that the battery life is around six hours. You can charge it via the micro USB port at the bottom of the device, and you can also use a power bank to extend the battery life.

On the side, there is a little red button that can trigger your phone recording. At the top, there is a 3.5mm mini-jack output to plug the SmartMike+ to your camera or a pair of headphones to monitor your audio signal.

Sabinetek SmartMike+ Recording Modes

There are three ways to use it:

Vlog mode: the Sabinetek SmartMike+ connects wirelessly to your iOS/Android smartphone via Bluetooth 5.0. Then, you can shoot videos using the free SmartMike+ App, which also features a Noise Reduction algorithm to improve your audio recording.

Interview mode: with two SmartMike+ devices, you can record the voice of the interviewer and interviewee simultaneously and mix it in the App.

Audio mode: if you use a DSLR/Mirrorless camera, a GoPro, or any other device with a microphone input, you can use the SmartMike+ in a “traditional” Receiver/Transmitter mode.

It is possible to stream directly to social media or use the SmarMike+ with more professional Apps like Filmic Pro, but you can’t do it entirely wirelessly. Indeed, you’ll have to plug the receiver to your smartphone via a 3.5mm-4 pole male to male Aux cable.

Pricing and Availability

The SmartMike+ is available in two colors, black and white, and it retails for $139.00/€127.00 as a single package, and $279.00/€254.00 for the twin package. The Sabinetek SmartMike+ is available now on Sabinetek’s website.
