New Samyang Autofocus 14mm and 50mm Lenses For Sony E-Mount

New Samyang Autofocus 14mm and 50mm Lenses For Sony E-Mount

The recently announced Samyang Autofocus lenses will be compatible with the full frame Sony E-mount. And at 14mm F2.8 and 50mm F1.4, they will certainly prove attractive for mirrorless photo and video shooters alike.

Samyang 50mm AF

The Korean manufacturer continues to innovate their range of optics with their new Samyang autofocus lenses, featuring an optimized design for full frame, mirrorless cameras. Samyang are really moving forward in their new products, now catering for the many photographers switching to mirrorless. Until now, Samyang had offered only fully manual lenses, so photographers will definitely be pleased with this new offering.

The 50mm F1.4 AS IF UMC is a tasty choice for portrait photography now with AF, offering a shallow depth of field and ‘beautiful bokeh’. It has 9 elements in 8 groups, with aspherical glass to minimize light dispersion and aberration.

The 14mm F2.8 ED AS IF UMC is the widest focal length offering, perfect for landscapes and capturing a sense of scale, and at F2.8 the lens isn’t restricted when it comes to lower light shooting. It stands to compete with Tokina’s ultra wide zoom lenses and Canon’s 14mm L series. It has 14 elements in 10 groups.

Both lenses are full metal bodied to house the internal focusing, with a sleek, minimal and high end look to them. No specs on their weight as of yet, but both lenses have a 67mm filter diameter for use with conventional filters that many of us have in our kit bag.

To add to the wow factor, both lenses will work with phase detect and contrast detect auto focusing functions for fast and accurate focusing.

If the quality of their previous lenses is anything to go by, eager mirrorless camera users will be snapping at the heels to get their hands on the new Samyang Autofocus lenses. There is no mention on pricing yet, but we hope Saymang follow suit of their current affordable lens pricing. Also, it is still too early for any sample images, but the new lenses will be on show at Photo & Imaging 2016, with global availability from July 2016.
