SHAPE Cage and Kits for Canon EOS R5 C Now Available

The Canadian company has recently introduced a new cage and several pre-bundled kits that are specifically designed for the Canon EOS R5 C, R5, and R6. All parts are now available for pre-order from the manufacturer’s website. The cage-only option currently retails for $225/€209.09.

Released at the beginning of the year, the Canon EOS R5 C is the video-centric version of the original R5. The two models share an almost identical body, with the R5 C being a little bulkier to accommodate an active cooling system. The camera is extremely capable, being able to record 8K RAW video up to 60fps (using an external power source). Soon after its launch, third-party manufacturers started developing accessories to make the camera ready to shoot. We already covered the SmallRig “Black Mamba” cage for the Canon EOS R5 C, and today is SHAPE’s turn. Let’s take a look at what they have to offer.

SHAPE Cage for Canon EOS R5 C

At the core of the new SHAPE accessory ecosystem for the Canon EOS R5 C is a new cage that is also compatible with the EOS R6 and the original EOS R5. The cage is built using CNC-machined aluminum and offers several mounting points for additional accessories. These include multiple 1/4”-20 and seven 3/8”-16 threaded holes. The latter comes with locating holes to prevent accidental rotation of the mounted accessories.

The cage attaches to the bottom of the camera via a single 1/4”-20 screw and nicely wraps around the body, granting clearance of all the fundamental controls, LCD screen, media and battery bays, native hot shoe mount, and side ports. The cage comes with a removable HDMI protector to keep your Micro HDMI cable in place.

Just like the SmallRig “Black Mamba” Camera Cage Kit for Canon EOS R5 C, SHAPE includes an aluminum top handle that can be attached either to the top or sides of the cage (for vertical shooting). The handle attaches via a 3/8”-16 screw with locating pins and offers 4 cold shoe mounts, several 1/4”-20 and 3/8”-16 mounting points as well as a horizontal 15mm rod holder.

Pre-bundled kits

The company has built a whole ecosystem of accessories around this new cage. These consist of several pre-bundled kits for both tripod or shoulder-style shooting. Depending on the pack, additional accessories might include a 15mm LWS baseplate with rods, a shoulder mount rig, a single 4×5.65” filter tray matte box, and a single rod follow focus.

SHAPE’s cage and pre-bundled kits for the Canon EOS R5 C are now available for pre-order from the manufacturer’s website. The cage with top handle costs $225/€209.09. The top handle is also available to purchase separately for $49/€45.53, while pricing for the packs is as follows:
