Chinese manufacturer SHARGE recently launched its sixth crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter for an interesting M.2 NVMe SSD enclosure and drive: the SHARGE Disk. This IP54 enclosure can take 2230-style NVMe SSD up to 2TB, and it has a built-in USB 3.2 Type-C port compatible with EDC devices, including cameras. So let’s take a closer look at this tiny external SSD!
M.2 NVMe SSDs are some of the fastest drives at the moment, and they’re available in various shapes and sizes. Last year, we reported about a Sintech metal adapter that can turn a 2230-style M.2 NVMe SSD into a CFexpress Type B memory card.
SHARGE, a Chinese electronic device manufacturer mainly known for its power banks and chargers, is back on Kickstarter with an enclosure that also uses 2230 M.2 NVMe SSDs: the SHARGE Disk.
SHARGE Disk – Features
The SHARGE Disk is one of the tiniest and most lightweight M.2 NVMe SSD enclosures on the market with dimensions of only 43 x 29 x 13mm/1.69 x 1.14 x 0.5in for a 24g/0.85oz weight. As mentioned, the enclosure accepts 2230 M.2 NVMe drives with a maximum 2TB capacity.
Filmmaking for Photographers

The tool-less design lets you simply put your SSD card inside the enclosure and change it if needed.
According to the company, the SHARGE Disk is IP54 rated, which means it can survive light water sprays and is resistant to dust and particles to some degree. Also, it should be drop-proof up to 2m/6.56ft.
Inside the enclosure is a built-in fan to help cool your M.2 NVMe SSD with a “maximum fan noise that currently does not exceed 32dB.”

The SHARGE disk features a built-in USB 3.2 Type-C port compatible with most EDC devices, including gaming consoles, laptops, computers, tablets, and video cameras. If your camera supports direct-to-drive external recording, the Disk should be able to handle it perfectly.

Transfer Speeds
On the side of the SHARGE Disk, you’ll find a write protection switch handy for physically blocking writing to the SSD.

Regarding transfer speeds, SHARGE mentions maximum write and read speeds up to 1000MB/s. However, there is no mention of the sustained write/read speeds.

Pricing and Availability
The SHARGE Disk is available for preorder now on Kickstarter, starting at $39.00 for the enclosure only. The bundle with the silicone case and data cable is $42.00. If you want to add a 2TB WD SN740 SSD, the bundle will cost you $191.00. The crowdfunding campaign is running until July 27th and is already fully funded.
At the end of every crowdfunding-related article, we remind you to please be aware of the risks when backing a project on a crowdfunding platform. Also, please read the platform’s use and remember there can be significant delays when delivering the product. Some projects don’t get delivered at all.
