SIRUI 35mm and 100mm T2.9 Announced – 1.6x Full-Frame Anamorphic & 1.25x Adapter

SIRUI has just expanded their full-frame anamorphic lens lineup, or rather they are in the process of doing so. The new SIRUI 35mm and 100mm T2.9 1.6x anamorphic primes will launch via an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign on September 8th, 2022 9am EST. In addition, the company has also announced a convenient 1.25x anamorphic adapter that increases the 1.6x to a 2x squeeze factor and also works on spherical lenses.

In addition to the already available full-frame anamorphic lenses (50mm T2.9 –article-, 75mm T2.9 –article-), SIRUI expands its product range to four lenses plus the above-mentioned adapter with this announcement. Although the two anamorphic lenses SIRUI 35mm and 100mm T2.9 1.6x are not yet available, there is already plenty of available information to decide if these new lenses are worth investing in the upcoming Indiegogo campaign or not.

The new 1.25x Anamorphic Adapter can be used to increase the squeeze factor from 1.6x to 2x (1.6 × 1.25 = 2.0), but since it comes with a “standard” 82mm rear thread, you can put it in front of a whole range of lenses, not just anamorphic ones. Three step-down rings (67mm, 72mm, 77mm) and one step-up ring (92mm) are included, so it should work with a number of different lens makes and models.

SIRUI 35mm and 100mm T2.9 1.6 anamorphic primes

The two new SIRIU full-frame anamorphic lenses share many of their specifications and features with their older siblings, the 50mm and 75mm T2.9 1.6x anamorphic. They cover full-frame sensors, are available with Canon RF, Leica L, Sony E or Nikon Z mounts, and feature blue lens flare and, of course, stretched oval bokeh effects.

In conjunction with the upcoming 1.25x anamorphic adapter, the situation changes a bit, as not every lens will still cover full-frame sensors once the adapter is attached to the front of the lens. It looks like the 35mm T2.9 and the 50mm T2.9 will only cover S35 sensors once the adapter is attached, while the 75mm and the 100mm T2.9 will still work with full-frame sensors without vignetting. I think we’ll have to wait for some field tests before we can make a 100% statement here.

With a length of only 46.5mm, the adapter is relatively small and lightweight (650g). The minimum focus distance is 0.8m. When the adapter is in place, the focus ring of the “host” lens should be set to infinity, as the adapter will now do the focusing. If you have misaligned the adapter and the (desired) lens flares are not exactly horizontal, simply press the button on the adapter, rotate the whole thing, and snap it back into place with the flares now perfectly aligned.

All four full-frame lenses feature identical focus (metric and imperial scales) and iris ring positioning and are color-matched for easy and seamless lens changes.

The 35mm T2.9, like the 50mm and 75mm, has 10 aperture blades, while the 100mm T2.9 offers 13 aperture blades. The focus ring rotates 120º on the 35mm and 100º on the 100mm. The 35mm weighs about 950g (depending on the mount), while the 100mm tips the scales at 1,485g.

Pricing and availability

Just like with the already available 50mm and 75mm T2.9 1.6x anamorphic prime lenses, SIRUI will launch both new lenses via an Indiegogo campaign once again. If you want to grab one of the ‘early-bird’ offerings, pricing is set to $1,279 for each lens ($220 off). The 1.25x anamorphic adapter is $429 ($70 off).
