SmallRig and Wooden Camera Rigging Solutions for FUJIFILM X-H2S Released

Mere hours after the announcement, SmallRig and Wooden Camera released their cages and rigging solutions for the new FUJIFILM X-H2S. For SmallRig, the first step consists of two cages for the X-H2S with or without battery grip. On the higher end of the scale, Wooden Camera launched a cage, baseplate, and V-Mount/Gold Mount battery plates for the new FUJIFILM APS-C flagship camera. So let’s take a closer look at all the rigging solutions!

The very impressive FUJIFILM X-H2S was released yesterday, and the least we can say is that it has remarkable video recording capabilities: internal 10-bit 4:2:2 Apple ProRes HQ/422/LT/Proxy recording, external 12-bit ProRes Raw and BRAW recording in 6.2K, a full-size HDMI port, and much more.

Back to our topic, SmallRig and Wooden Camera already launched their rigging solutions for the FUJIFILM X-H2S to make it an even better filmmaking tool.

SmallRig FUJIFILM X-H2S cage

Let’s start with the most affordable piece of equipment, the SmallRig FUJIFILM X-H2S cage (codename: 3934). This all-in-one full cage is made entirely of aluminum which is pretty lightweight at only 165g/5.8oz.

The cage attaches to your X-H2S via one 1/4 “-20 screw, one locating pin at the bottom, and one screw in the camera’s strap eyelet. Also, there’s a built-in magnetic flat-head screwdriver under the cage for easy assembly and disassembly.

This cage features multiple 1/4 “-20 and 3/8 “-16 threaded holes all around the cage and a built-in cold shoe on top of the cage. Also, you’ll find a NATO rail on the left side and a built-in ARCA-Swiss plate at the bottom, compatible with the DJI Ronin RS2 gimbal.

SmallRig also launched another multifunctional version if you want to rig your FUJIFILM X-H2S with an FT-XH or VG-XH battery grip. Most of the features of this multifunctional cage (codename: 3933) are identical, but it is heavier at 241g/8.5oz.

However, you’ll gain one cold shoe mounting point on the left side of the SmallRig multifunctional X-H2S cage, which is always nice to have.

Wooden Camera FUJIFILM X-H2S cage

Wooden Camera has a solid reputation for creating high-end rigging solutions, and all these new products for the FUJIFILM X-H2S don’t seem to be an exception. Let’s start with the core of the system, which is one piece full wrap cage.

This cage is entirely made out of aluminum and weighs 219g/0.48lbs. Unlike the SmallRig option, this Wooden Camera FUJIFILM X-H2S cage attaches to your camera via a 1/4 “-20 screw at the bottom and the top cold shoe mount of the camera.

However, I’m the kind of filmmaker that if a third-party accessory manufacturer takes something out of my camera, you better give me the same thing elsewhere. So even if this Wooden Camera cage has an array of industry-standard 1/4 “-20 and 3/8 “-16 mounting points with locating pins along the top and side of the cage, there is no built-in cold shoe mount. Of course, you can mount a 1/4 “-20 or 3/8 “-16 to cold shoe adapter to the cage, but that’ll be an extra.

Additionally, you’ll find a detachable cable clamp on the left side of the cage. Also, there are engraved markings to indicate the camera’s focal plane and location tabs to make sure the camera is square to the cage.

Wooden Camera FUJIFILM X-H2S kits

Wooden Camera also launched several Unified Accessory kits for the FUJIFILM X-H2S. Let’s start with the Base kit, which includes, on top of the cage:

• One Mini Top Handle that attaches to the top of your camera with a 3/8 “-16 screw
• A lightweight 15mm baseplate. The top of the baseplate features an ARCA-Swiss mount, and the bottom is an ARRI dovetail
• Two 9″ 15mm rods

Next is the Advanced kit that adds an 8″ ARRI-standard safety dovetail.

Last but not least, two Wooden Camera PRO kits for the FUJIFILM X-H2S are available in either V-Mount or Gold Mount versions. These kits have longer 12″ 15mm rods and a 12″ safety dovetail.

Furthermore, you’ll get a Micro Battery Slide Pro module with a D-Tap to NP-W235 battery dummy cable. The battery plate features an unregulated 12V to a 3-Pin LEMO connector for camera power. It also features two D-Tap (5.8 Amps) ports for accessory power.

The plate attaches to two 15mm rods via an integrated 15mm rod clamp. The position and angle of the battery plate and battery itself can be adjusted quickly with a lever turn. This modularity is handy to achieve a perfect balance on your shoulder.

Pricing and availability

The SmallRig standard cage for the X-H2S retails for $89.99, and the multifunctional version that fits the camera with the grip is $119.99. Both cages are available now on SmallRig’s website.
