The Sony NEX-FS100 camera comes sooner than expected. While it was initially announced for “summer” or August 2011 by some sources, now it seems like it might be out in a couple of days. That’s late May for the US and the beginning of June for Europe.
I’ve reported about the FS100 during NAB. A real video camera with a very lowlight capable Super 35mm sensor that has 4:4:4 (or 4:2:2, nobody seems to know for sure) 8 bit uncompressed output via hdmi. In conjunction with one of the new Atomos or Blackmagic recording devices this could be a very powerful filmmaking machine for more or less $5000.
If you plan on buying this camera you should make sure you get on a preorder list as the demand is quite high. Get it here on B&H for example.
