Sony Monitor & Control App v2 – Multi-Cam Monitoring, Anamorphic Desqueeze, FX6 & BURANO Support

Sony recently released an upgrade version 2.0.0 for their Monitor & Control app, which includes support for the BURANO and FX6, anamorphic de-squeeze, multi-camera monitoring, and more. So, let’s take a closer look at all of the new features of this Android and iOS-compatible companion app!

During IBC 2023, Sony introduced the Monitor & Control app, a free tool available for iOS and Android devices that connects to your camera wirelessly. The app allows you to monitor your video signal, change camera settings, and access multiple monitoring tools such as a waveform, histogram, and false color.

At launch, the app was only compatible with the Sony FX30, FX3, and FX6, but Sony had plans to support more cameras in the future. This time has finally come with the Sony Monitor & Control app version 2.0.0.

Sony Monitor & Control app version 2.0.0 – what’s new

While the Sony a1, a9 III, a7S III, FX6, and BURANO had already been added to the Monitor & Control app, the latest two had limitations. The most significant changes around the Sony Monitor & Control version 2.0.0 are for FX6 and BURANO users and include:

• Improves resolution and delay during monitoring for both the FX6 and BURANO. It supports false color, waveform, histogram, and zebra monitoring tools.
• Still, for the BURANO and FX6, the Monitor & Control app version 2.0.0 improves constraints for monitoring during S&Q, 24P, Interval Rec, and 8K settings.
• The Focus Map function is now supported for the FX6.

If you’re not an FX6 or BURANO user, don’t worry; you’ll still benefit from the improved UI for remote operation and support for anamorphic de-squeeze on your smartphone or tablet.

Last, this update includes support for Multi-Camera Monitoring, which allows you to watch up to four camera feeds simultaneously.
