Thypoch Simera-C Cine Lenses Released - Compact Cinema Primes

Thypoch, a sister brand company of DZOFILM just released their Full Frame ultra-compact and lightweight cine lenses series, the Simera-C. Inspired by the Simera photography edition, the new Simera-C lenses range from 28mm to 75mm and are compatible with many cinema cameras. Could these be the most compact cine lenses out there? Let’s take a closer look.

Thypoch was established in 2023 and together with DZOFILM, the company has launched their first set of cine lenses, drawing inspiration from their Simera Series M-mount photography lenses (now available for Z, E, X, and RF mounts), maintaining the signature vintage feel Thypoch is known for.

Features

The Simera-C lens series covers four focal lengths, 28, 35, 50, and 75mm, with future plans for a 21mm. There are dual focus scales (metric and imperial), and a fast, consistent aperture of T1.5 and 16 iris blades that will keep the bokeh effect smooth and round. Intending to become one of the most compact cine lenses around, the 28mm, 35mm, and 50mm lenses are 69.6mm (2.7 inches) in length, while the 75mm is 86.4mm (3.4 inches). Weighing between 390-470g (0.86-1.05 lbs), they’re compact and light enough for handheld or gimbal use. The four-lens set comes in an aluminum hard case that should be small enough for cabin luggage and light enough to carry with the provided shoulder strap.

The build

The Simera-C lenses use aspherical, ED, and high-refractive-index elements to maintain high resolution and control chromatic aberration, so according to the company, they should be a solid choice for 8K production. Thypoch claims that the lenses’ multi-coating helps cut down on flares and ghosting, so even in backlit situations, you should still get strong contrast and a clean image.

Compatibility

Simera-C lenses are compatible with Sony Alpha mirrorless cameras, Sony FX Cine camera, as well as the DJI Ronin 4D, RED cameras, and ARRI cinema cameras. The lenses all have a 210° focus throw and the same geared position design, so you won’t need to make adjustments when swapping lenses or accessories.

Using the extremely compact Simera-C lenses with autofocus systems like the DJI Focus Pro should make gear handling easier. Plus, when mounted on setups like the DJI Ronin 4D FLEX or Sony Venice Rialto Extension, these lenses can capture the more difficult angles – low shots or tight spaces, for example.

Price and availability

The Simera-C 4-lens set for Sony E-mount will be available for $3,169/€2,937. The lenses are priced individually starting at $879 (E-mount):

The aluminum alloy case is included, and shipping is expected in mid-November. Multiple mount options: native Sony E-mount and Leica M-mount available. Additional mount variations are planned to be brought to the market in the future.
