Tilta Cage for Atomos Ninja V/V+ and Shinobi Released

Tilta Cage for Atomos Ninja V/V+ and Shinobi Released

Yes, the Atomos Ninja V is an oldtimer by now, but is it outdated? Absolutely not. And the reason behind it is that Atomos is constantly updating it to match today’s expectations – which is great news for the filmmaking community. And the fact that Tilta has just released another cage for it (and the Ninja V+/Shinobi) is further proof that the good old Ninja V is not going anywhere any time soon.

The Atomos Ninja V was initially launched in 2018 (you can find the original NAB interview here), but it has received a number of useful updates over the years, so it’s far from obsolete. So it’s not surprising that companies are still developing cages and other accessories for it.

If you’re starting out with this handy monitor/recorder, or have a Ninja V+ or Shinobi monitor, this new Tilta cage might be worth a look.

The new Tilta cage doesn’t offer any extraordinary features, but it can still be very useful when slim protection with a number of attachment points is needed. It offers 1/4-20″ threads throughout, some with locating pins. Oddly, Tilta seems to ignore the ARRI standard here, which is 3/8-16″ when using locating pins.

The cage comes with an Allen key for mounting the included HDMI protection clamp and a set of needed screws. The cage itself leaves room for the original Ninja V/V+ sun hood, so the cage is less intrusive. A shoulder strap can also be attached to the cage to build a quick & dirty director’s monitor, for example.

A NATO rail is integrated directly into the cage structure for mounting additional accessories, as is a cold shoe mount on the top side of the cage.

The entire Tilta cage for Atomos Shinobi & Ninja V/V+ weighs only 239g and is made of aluminum alloy. The bottom line is that this seems to be a sturdy yet lightweight solution for 1) mounting the monitor/recorder to your rig and 2) mounting other accessories to the cage.

In fact, the only odd thing is the lack of 3/8-16″ threads with locating pins.

Pricing

The Tilta cage for Ninja V/V+ & Shinobi currently sells for $89.10 (10% off until May, 26th). You can order yours here.
