Tilta Camera Cage for Kinefinity MAVO Edge 6K/8K Released

Tilta Camera Cage for Kinefinity MAVO Edge 6K/8K Released

Tilta has recently introduced a new camera cage and kit that are specifically designed for the Kinefinity MAVO Edge 6K and 8K bodies. The cage features several 1/4”-20 and 3/8”-16 mounting points, three cold-shoe mounts, three NATO rails, and an Arca-Swiss plate at the bottom. Pricing starts at $149.

Released in March, the Kinefinity MAVO Edge 6K is the company’s latest full-frame cinema camera. This new model sports a long list of advanced features, including a new 3:2 6K sensor, Cinema DNG and ProRes Open Gate recording capabilities up to 75fps, internal ND filters, and a robust set of I/O connections. In case you missed it, make sure to check out Johnnie’s short film and our NAB interview with Kinefinity.

SmallRig was among the first few companies to come up with rigging solutions for the camera, which are also compatible with the MAVO Edge 8K. Indeed, both cameras share the same form factor, although their bodies differ in material (carbon fiber for the 8K version, aluminum for the 6K). Now, Tilta joins the party with their own MAVO Edge 6K/8K camera cage and kit. Let’s take a closer look.

Tilta Camera Cage for Kinefinity MAVO Edge 6K/8K

This new camera cage nicely wraps around the front, bottom, and sides of the Kinefinity MAVO Edge 6K body, leaving the rear side of the camera entirely free for attaching batteries and connecting cables. It screws directly to the top and bottom of the camera, thus preventing accidental rotation.

The cage is CNC-machined from an alloy of magnesium and aluminum with stainless steel parts. Countless 1/4”-20 and 3/8”-16 threaded holes (many of which come with locating points) populate its surface. Moreover, the rig features three cold shoe mounts in the upper section and can host NATO-style accessories on the top, as well as on the sides.

Lastly, the cage has an integrated Arca-Swiss standard quick-release plate at the bottom, which allows users to rapidly move between tripod and gimbal setups. By the way, when paired with a fairly compact lens, the Kinefinity MAVO Edge 6K can fit on lightweight gimbals such as the newly-released DJI RS 3 Pro. However, keep in mind that the cage will add approximately 1kg/2.4lbs to your camera build.

Basic Kit and Microphone Holder

Along with the cage-only option, the company also offers a Basic Kit that includes their multi-functional top handle. And, Tilta has developed a new Microphone Holder specifically for the Kinefinity MAVO Edge 6K. It comes in two left/right options, attaches to the side of the cage via a NATO rail, and features an adjustable damping system.
