Tilta Camera Cage for Sony VENICE 2 Released

Tilta has just introduced a new set of mechanical and electronic accessories that are specifically designed for the Sony VENICE 1 and 2. It includes a top plate, top handle, side arms, 15mm LWS baseplate with rods, and a battery plate. It retails for $1,650.

First announced in November last year, the Sony VENICE 2 (Lab Test here) is the company’s flagship motion picture camera. Just like the original model, the VENICE 2 recently got a new extension system that allows its image sensor to be detached from the actual camera body.

Talking about the body, the form factor of the VENICE 2 is slightly different from that of its predecessor. Indeed, the camera is a little more compact and lighter, and features a fully flat bottom design. This fact forced ARRI to revise their accessories for the camera, and now Tilta is coming up with a whole set of mechanical and electronic add-ons for the VENICE 2. Let’s take a closer look.

Tilta Camera Cage for Sony VENICE 1 and 2

Tilta’s new accessory ecosystem is specifically designed for the Sony VENICE 2, but is also retro-compatible with the original VENICE. It consists of a top plate, a top handle, two side arms, a 15mm LWS baseplate, four 15mm rods (30 and 15cm), and a battery plate that comes in both V-mount and Gold mount options.

All mechanical parts are built using CNC-machined aluminum and the whole rig adds about 1.9kg to the camera build. Several 1/4”-20 and 3/8”-16 threaded holes with locating pins for mounting additional accessories are provided on the top plate, top handle, and side arms.

Users are free to use the included top handle or the camera’s original one, as this is compatible with Tilta’s top plate. The position of the top handle is adjustable by sliding it forward or backwards, and an optional extension allows the top grip to be extended towards the rear side of the camera to wrap around the battery plate.

Finally, the 15mm LWS baseplate has a built-in shoulder pad. This accessory is natively compatible with Tilta dovetail plates, but can also be mounted onto ARRI-style dovetail plates using a dedicated adapter.

Power accessories

The kit also includes accessories that further expand the camera’s power options. Particularly, a V-mount or Gold Mount plate attaches to the back of the camera offering two 3-pin Fischer R/S ports (24V and 14.8V) as well as a 2-pin 14.8V power outlet.

Moreover, a dedicated 4-pin male to 4-pin female cable (15cm) allows communication between the rear battery plate and the top plate, which also integrates three 14.8V outputs, two of which support Run/Stop capabilities.

Price and availability

The Tilta Camera Cage for Sony VENICE 2 is now available to purchase from the manufacturer’s website. Both V-mount and Gold mount options retail for $1,650.
