Ulanzi U-Mic Released - A Wireless Microphone With Two Transmitters Under $100

Ulanzi is joining the wireless microphone market with its first product: the U-Mic. With an aggressive price tag of under $100, this dual-transmitter wireless microphone system comes with its own charging case and gives you a serious bang for your buck with onboard recording capabilities, a 6-hour battery life, and even a security track to avoid clipping your audio recording. So let’s take a closer look at it!

Chinese manufacturer Ulanzi continues to release products with remarkable consistency and speed across its Ulanzi, VIJIM, and FALCAM brands. Indeed, while Ulanzi first gained a good reputation with their F22/F38/F50 quick-release systems, since then they have also joined the tripod, camera accessory, and small LED lighting market.

Ulanzi is back once more, taking its first step into the wireless microphone market with the U-Mic, a compact and very affordable system ideal for vloggers, live streaming, and content creators.

Ulanzi U-Mic – features

The Ulanzi U-Mic is a compact wireless microphone system comprising two transmitters and one receiver. Both the transmitters and receiver feature a built-in battery with a battery life of up to six hours, according to the company.

The U-Mic uses the popular 2.4GHz digital transmission system, similar to the RØDE Wireless Go II, for example. With a clear line of sight, you can expect a maximum transmission range of around 100m/328ft.

On the transmitters, you’ll find a power button, +/- buttons to adjust the gain from -10 to 10dB, and a built-in microphone. What is pretty incredible at this price point is that the transmitters have 8GB of internal storage, which ensures up to 14 hours of internal recording. You can use this internal storage to record a safety track, a handy feature if your transmitted audio has unwanted peaks.

The receiver features a power button, a USB Type-C port, a headphone output, and a color touchscreen display to adjust your settings. The headphone monitoring output can be adjusted from 0 to 100 in five steps.

The U-Mic comes with a storage/charging case capable of fully charging your two transmitters and receiver in less than two hours. After one charging cycle, you’ll need to charge the charging case via the USB-C port at the bottom of the unit. Charging the case takes around two hours, according to Ulanzi.

Ulanzi says the U-Mic has a 24ms latency between the transmitters and receiver, which sounds a bit high. But as we say, you can’t have your cake and eat it, too.
