Viltrox has just released a new lens mount adapter that allows you to use Sony E-Mount lenses on Nikon Z cameras with autofocus capabilities: the Viltrox E-Z AF lens mount adapter. The adapter supports lens and in-body image stabilization, transmits EXIF data to your camera, and, of course, allows you to control your aperture directly in the camera. So, let’s take a closer look at it!

Viltrox is a Chinese company that started in the photography and filmmaking industry by making lens mount adapters in 2009. After gaining some success, the company started releasing other products such as LED video lights and monitors, but more importantly, lenses for multiple camera mounts, including Sony E-Mount, FUJIFILM X-mount, Nikon Z-mount, and Canon RF-mount. The company recently started making cinema lenses, such as the EPIC T2.0 1.33x Full-Frame anamorphic cine lens series and the massive LUNA 42-420mm T5.6 Large-Format cine zoom.

The company is returning to their roots with a new lens mount adapter for Nikon Z-mount camera owners: the Viltrox E-Z AF lens mount adapter.

Viltrox E-Z AF lens mount adapter – features

The Viltrox E-Z AF lens mount adapter allows you to use Sony Sony E-Mount lenses on Nikon Z-mount cameras. It is entirely made of copper and quite slim, at only 4mm/0.15in. Proud of their manufacturing, the company claims a “zero-play design” between the lens and camera.

The lens mount adapter features electronic contacts on both sides, which means it communicates and transmits data from the lens to the camera and vice versa. Thanks to those contacts, the adapter supports EXIF data transmission to the camera. Furthermore, you can adjust the aperture directly on your camera body, as you would with a native Nikon Z-mount lens.

As its name suggests, the E-Z AF lens mount adapter supports autofocus. According to Viltrox, it is compatible with AF-S, AF-C, AF-A, AF-F autofocus modes, and also MF.

At the back of the lens mount adapter is a proprietary port for future firmware upgrades.

Price and availability

The Viltrox E-Z AF lens mount adapter is available now for $99/€98. This adapter isn’t revolutionary compared to other options, such as the Megadap ETZ21 Pro. However, with a price tag under $100, it is one of the most affordable options on the market.
