Why You Should Update Your DJI Osmo Action 4 Firmware

The most recent DJI Osmo Action 4 firmware versions v01.04.05.10 and v01.04.07.10 bring enhanced image quality in video modes at 30fps or lower, and bug fixes. Furthermore, they optimize audio recording gain and volume performance and adds an “auto power off” feature when using the DJI Mic 2 with the Osmo Action 4.

The latest action camera from the Chinese tech giant DJI – the Osmo Action 4 – was released in August 2023, just a few weeks before GoPro unveiled their HERO12 action camera. The camera from DJI offers a new, larger 1/1.3” CMOS sensor capable of 4K 4:3 video in up to 60fps, or 4K 16:9 in up to 120fps. The camera can record in DJI’s D-Log M profile (H.265) with 10-bit color. It also includes a direct Bluetooth connection to DJI Mic 2.

The camera has already received a few firmware updates along the way. The most recent update brings some interesting new features and fixes. Let’s take a short look at what is new.

DJI Osmo Action 4 firmware update v01.04.07.10 (and v01.04.05.10)

DJI released the new firmware update for the Osmo Action 4 in March, and another one fixing some bugs in June. According to DJI, it improves the image quality for video modes at 30 fps or lower. DJI did not further specify how exactly they improved the image quality (whether with a higher bitrate, different NR and sharpness algorithms, etc.).

Additional improvements address the DJI Mic 2. There is a new “auto power off” function in the Osmo Action 4. When activated, it will power off the DJI Mic 2 transmitter after 15 minutes of inactivity. Furthermore, the new firmware optimizes recording gain and volume performance when using the DJI Mic 2 with the Osmo Action 4. This improvement alone makes it worth to upgrade the camera!

Here are the full release notes for the Osmo Action 4 firmware v01.04.05.10 from DJI. (Make sure you go straight to v01.04.07.10 though because it fixes some bugs that were probably introduced with the prior update):

• Optimized processing algorithm to significantly upgrade the image quality when recording video at 30 fps or lower.
• Added auto power-off function for DJI Mic 2 Transmitter. When a transmitter is not connected to a device and is not recording independently for more than 15 minutes, the transmitter will automatically power off. When the transmitter is connected to the camera, tap settings > Wireless Mic > Auto Power Off to enable the function. (The firmware of the transmitter should be v04.03.08.31 or above.)
• Optimized the recording gain for DJI Mic 2 transmitter and recording volume performance.
• Fixed some minor bugs.

The firmware can be updated directly via the DJI Mimo mobile app.
