Winners of the CineD Best-of-Show Awards at IBC 2024

IBC 2024 is over, and here they are, the winners for our CineD Best-of-Show Awards at IBC 2024! We presented awards in 9 categories, from cameras, lenses, and lighting to AI innovation, Best Newcomer, and more. Here are the winners!

Selecting the winners of our CineD Best-of-Show Award at IBC 2024 is never easy—just as challenging as it is at NAB 2024—because there’s always so much to choose from. To streamline the process, we’ve begun asking manufacturers to submit their top candidates for their most innovative products, and it’s been working really well. So, without further ado, let’s move on to the winners!

Best Camera Innovation at IBC 2024 – Winner: Canon EOS C80

We award the Best Camera Innovation CineD Best-of-Show Award at IBC 2024 to Canon for the Canon EOS C80. For our full assessment, watch our review below. It offers exceptional value for money with built-in internal RAW recording in 6K from a full-frame-sensor, triple base ISO, compact form factor, incredible autofocus, and much more.

Best Lens Innovation at IBC 2024 – Winner: BLAZAR APEX 1.33x Autofocus Anamorphic Lenses

BLAZAR continues to upend the anamorphic market with affordable anamorphic primes with beautiful characteristics, such as the BLAZAR Remus series. At this IBC, however, they managed to surprise us: the BLAZAR APEX will be a series of autofocus anamorphic lenses, which we believe is truly unique and will greatly help the independent film shooter seeking a distinctive look.

Best Lighting Innovation at IBC 2024 – Winner: Aputure STORM 1200x

Aputure has a long tradition of introducing popular lights, but the new Aputure STORM 1200x adds a few innovations that were unheard of in LED lights before – for one, it adds fluorescent components that make skin tones appear more natural. For another, it’s very small, considering this is replacing a 1.8kW HMI in terms of light output. The locking Bowens mount is brilliant, too.

Best Camera Control and Accessories at IBC 2024 – Winner: PD Movie 3D Air Solo 3D Filming System

When I think of 3D shooting with two cameras, I picture the large, bulky rigs used by James Cameron, featuring two Sony VENICE cameras. I surely don’t think of a single-shooter rig that can easily balance on a gimbal that even features LiDAR autofocus, but that’s precisely what PD Movie 3D Air Solo 3D Filming System is – a brilliant innovation that makes shooting specifically for VR rigs, like the Apple Vision Pro, more than feasible.

Best Camera Support at IBC 2024 – Winner: Tilta Mirage Pro Mattebox

The Tilta Mirage Pro Mattebox implements LC Tec’s electronic variable ND technology in a purchasable product (LC Tec won our Best-of-Show at IBC Award in 2023 for the eND technology). It was the first time it was shown in Europe, but we had already shot a video about the Mirage Pro during Cine Gear 2024 in Los Angeles.

Best Storage Innovation at IBC 2024 – Winner: OWC Envoy Ultra Thunderbolt 5 Portable SSD

The OWC Envoy Ultra Thunderbolt 5 Portable SSD is the fastest compact Thunderbolt 5 SSD, offering up to 6000MB/s sustained speed. This makes a huge difference in editing high-quality video in the field, and it’s still affordable in both its 2TB and 4TB configurations. We find that worthy of a storage innovation award since it can only positively affect offloading and post-production workflows.

Best Battery Innovation at IBC 2024 – Winner: Minifab VMP400 V-Mount Battery Plate for Canon C400

The Minifab VMP400 is a brilliant little solution for the new Canon EOS C400, which allows you to use a V-mount (or Gold Mount) battery alongside an original battery on the C400. It seems like a simple feat, but it’s nothing anyone else thought of, so we deem this worthy of a battery innovation award since it can make a shooter’s life a lot more convenient in the field.

Streaming / Remote Production / Cloud Workflows at IBC 2024 – Winner: PRODUCER Mark II

We’ve reported about PRODUCER before, a comprehensive all-in-one solution for workflow management for creative professionals. They recently released PRODUCER Mark II, the second full version of their ever-evolving solution, which adds tons of great and useful features to their solution. We award them the CineD Best-of-Show Award at IBC 2024 in the Streaming / Remote Production / Cloud Workflows category.

Best Newcomer at IBC 2024 – Winner: Pixel Cube by Awesome Pixels & Ottomatic

We decided to also give a Best Newcomer Award at IBC 2024 to the Pixel Cube (full article here), an automated remote offload solution for DITs, by DITs. This has the potential actually to open up a professional DIT workflow to sets that could otherwise not have afforded a full-day DIT (for example, documentary shoots), and it’s a very smartly integrated solution of hardware, cloud uploads, and remote workflow.

AI Innovation at IBC 2024 – Winner: play

While still in an early version, we see a lot of potential in “play.”: It’s a solution that analyzes footage, automatically tags the content and shot sizes, and so on, and then writes prompts to generate automatic edits from that footage. It’s a way to “communicate” with the footage or archive material to generate automatic edits that saves lots of time for simple sports edits, for example. We award our AI Innovation at IBC 2024 award to “play.”

We also congratulate all other nominees: Imaginario AI, Ateliere, Strada, Shape, PhotoCineRent, Bolin Technology, LC-Tec, YC Onion, SIRUI, Viltrox, NANLUX/NANLITE, Astera and DoPChoice/Lightbridge. You all did an amazing job with your innovations.

Congratulations to all winners, see you for the next round of our Best-of-Show Awards at NAB 2025!
