Wooden Camera has just released accessory kits for the Canon EOS C70 so you can fully rig your cinema camera. Three models are available, base/advanced/pro, the latter consisting of a top plate, mini top handle, lightweight 15mm baseplate, two 15 mm rods, a battery slide pro V-Mount or Gold Mount, and a safety dovetail. Of course, you can get all parts separately. Let’s take a closer look at them!
Manufacturers are slowly starting to come up with their rigging solutions for the Canon EOS C70. After Kondor Blue and Zacuto’s rigging solutions, Wooden Camera has just released its own design and ideas for the tiny Canon EOS C70 cinema camera.

Wooden Camera Canon EOS C70 Top Plate
Let’s start with the Wooden Camera top plate for the Canon EOS C70. This top plate is made from aluminum and features numerous 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 ARRI-style anti-twist accessory threads. Also, there is an offset shoe mount to install an additional accessory.

The plate mounts on top of the camera using its Canon Accessory Mount and a 1/4″-20 screw inside the camera’s built-in cold shoe. The top plate features multiple Canon Accessory Mounts along the center of the top plate.

Mini Top Handle for the Canon C70
If you want to upgrade the – not so good – handle that comes with the Canon C70, the Wooden Camera Mini Top Handle might be an excellent solution for you.
This aluminum top handle can screw directly to the camera’s hot shoe, or you can mount it to Wooden Camera’s top plate. Indeed, this handle features a Canon Accessory Mount hot shoe, which is the same as the Canon one.

The Mini Top Handle has multiple 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 ARRI-style mounting points, as well as Canon Accessory Mounts on the front and rear of the handle.

Monitor Hinge Mount
One of my favorite accessories for the Canon C70 from Wooden Camera is probably their monitor hinge mount. This relatively simple product made from aluminum allows you to attach a monitor on top of your camera and tilt it back and forth 180°.

You can mount it directly onto the camera’s cold shoe or the Wooden Camera top plate/mini top handle, and it won’t go anywhere thanks to its 1/4″-20 thumbscrew and Canon Accessory Mount.
The Monitor Hinge Mount’s top has a 1/4″-20 screw with anti-twist pins compatible with SmallHD monitors. If you don’t have a SmallHD monitor, don’t worry, the mount comes with a rubber pad to secure and protect other on-camera monitors.

15mm Lightweight Support Baseplate
Next is the Wooden Camera 15mm LWS Baseplate for the Canon EOS C70. This baseplate acts both as a riser and 15mm LWS rod support, so your rails are at the correct height.
The top of the baseplate features an Arca-Swiss-type quick-release dovetail plate with a 3/8″-16 camera screw and a push/pull safety pin to keep your camera from twisting.

There is a vertical rod port on the front of the dovetail so you can attach an optional lens support.
On the sides of the 15mm LWS, you’ll find a couple of 1/4″-20 mounting points as well as one 3/8″-16 ARRI-style threaded hole. Also, on both sides of the base, there are ARRI-style rosettes with an M6 thread.

The plate’s bottom features an ARRI-standard dovetail mount, but it comes with a quick dovetail plate with multiple threads so you can attach your own quick release plate to it.

Battery Slide Pro V-Mount/Gold Mount
Last but not least are the battery slide pro modules available in both V-Mount and Gold Mount versions. These battery plates provide external power to the Canon EOS C70 via a built-in cable with a barrel connector. Also, there are three D-Tap ports to power accessories and a digital fuse in case of overloads that cuts off accessory outputs while leaving the camera powered.

The Wooden Camera Battery Slide Pro can be attached to any standard Canon Accessory Mount, which means rods are not required. The plate can also tilt up and down, so it retains access to the original C70 battery compartment. It means that you can hot-swap power between both BPU and brick batteries.

Wooden Camera Canon EOS C70 Accessory Kits
If you want to bundle accessories, three Wooden Camera Canon EOS C70 accessory kits are available: Base, Advanced, and Pro versions.
- Base kit includes the Mini Top Handle, Top Plate, LW 15mm Baseplate, and a set of 12inches 15mm rods.
- Advanced kit: same as the Base kit with an 8” Safety Dovetail.
- Pro kit: same as the Base kit with a 12” Safety Dovetail and a Battery Slide Pro (V-Mount or Gold Mount).
Price and availability
All products are available to pre-order now and should start shipping later this month.
The Top Plate retails for $299.00, the LW 15mm Baseplate is $499.00, the Mini Top Handle is $95.00, the Monitor Hinge Mount will cost you $85.00, and the Battery Slide Pro is $399.00.
Finally, the Base kit retails for $993.00, the Advanced one is $1173.00, and the Pro one is $1672.00. I think Wooden Camera could have lowered the price of kits that don’t represent a significant saving over buying all parts separately.
