Wooden Camera has recently introduced two new accessory packs – Elite and Core – for RED’s KOMODO-X. The Elite system is the most complete option, consisting of a dual 15mm ARCA baseplate and riser, a full camera cage, a top cheese plate, and an extended top handle. The company also launched a new power distribution module and breakout box.
RED’s latest cinema camera – the KOMODO-X – inherits a similar form factor to that of the original KOMODO but with a couple of design changes that make it incompatible with many existing KOMODO accessories. If you’d like to learn more about the camera, you can read our initial coverage here.
Accessory manufacturers such as Bright Tangerine, SmallRig, MID49, and Tilta have already come up with their own tailored-made solutions for the new camera model, and now Wooden Camera is following their lead. Let’s take a closer look!

Wooden Camera Accessory System for RED KOMODO-X – overview
Wooden Camera’s Accessory System for RED KOMODO-X comes in two flavors – Elite and Core. The Elite bundle adds about 1.5kg/3.32 lbs to your camera rig, and it includes an ARCA-Swiss style baseplate and riser, the actual full camera cage system, a top cheese plate, and an extended Ultra Handle.

On the other hand, the Core variant is a more stripped-down, lightweight kit (884g/1.9lbs) only featuring the ARCA baseplate and riser, top cheese plate, and a more compact 3-inch top handle without the rear-side extension.

Focusing on the top-tier Elite bundle, the modular camera cage consists of three main components: two side rails and a rear cage system. The cage seems to wrap nicely around the camera body, offering additional mounting points for accessories in every direction. Moreover, the rear right side of the cage integrates a rail clamp that is compatible with the company’s new, well-thought-out Accessory Plate System.

Literally on top of that, the Ultra Handle System integrates a 3-pin R/S port on the right-hand side. This communicates with the camera’s top pogo pins via a dedicated riser plate.

Power and breakout boxes

Along with these mechanical accessories, the company also launched a redesigned D-Box power distribution module – available in V-mount and Gold mount options – as well as a new breakout box (B-Box). The former slides into the camera’s built-in V-mount battery plate, providing 4 additional power ports for accessories and a DC-IN port for battery hot-swapping. The list of power outputs includes two 12V 2-pin ports, a D-Tap, as well as a 3-pin R/S with 24V.

Additionally, when connected to the camera’s EXT port via a dedicated cable, the power module also provides EXT passthrough to support run/stop capabilities on both the D and B-Box.

Talking about the B-Box, this aims at expanding the camera’s I/O by adding timecode, Genlock, CTRL, and 3-pin R/S (24V) ports. The B-Box can be connected directly to the camera’s EXT port or the D-Box. Moreover, it features M2.5 threaded holes on the back to accommodate a 40mm Accessory Rail, which can be slid directly into the built-in Accessory Rail Clamp on the rear side of the cage.
